Follow the SCC and its member schools and student-athletes at the various 2012 state and regional wrestling competitions.

New England Tournament (March 2-3)

2012 CIAC State Open (Feb. 24-25) - State Open

2012 CIAC State Tournaments (Feb. 17-18) -  Class LL, Class L, Class M

Congratulations to Xavier (Class LL) and Daniel Hand (Class L) for winning state titles.  Xavier and Hand also finished 1-2 at the State Open.

Daniel Hand finished second at the New England Championships.  Two student athletes - Hand's Will Crisco (120 lbs.) and Xavier's Sean Marinan (220 lbs.) won New England titles.

   

Xavier Captures 2012 SCC Wrestling Title

The 2012 SCC Wrestling Championship Meet was held on Sunday, February 12 at Daniel Hand High School.  Xavier captured its second straight SCC championship - totaling 203.5 points.  Hand was the runner-up (192) while Shelton was third (94.5).

Shelton's Pat Gillen is National Wrestling Finalist

Congratulations to Shelton senior Patrick Gillen, who wrestled for the 215-pound national high school title on Sunday, April 3 in Virginia Beach, Va.   Gillen fell to New York's Nick Gwiadowski in a fall at 4:57 - it was Gillen's first loss of the season in 54 bouts.   Gillen was the third wrestler from the state of Connecticut to compete for a national title.   Gillen finished his high school career with a 204-15 career record and his 201 wins make him the state's all-time winningest wrestler.

Gillen is a four-time All-SCC, three-time All-State and two-time All-New England honoree.   Gillen, who has accepted a scholarship to attend the University of Virginia, was recently named a SCC/SportsCenter of Connecticut Scholar Athlete of the Month.

Xavier Captures 2011 SCC Wrestling Championship

Xavier won the 2011 Southern Connecticut Conference Wrestling Championship, which was held on Saturday, February 12 at Foran High School.   The Falcons (186.5 points) finished ahead of runner-up Hand (176).  Hand was the reigning three-time SCC champion.
