SCC Baseball Playoffs Expand to Eight Teams

(3-15-09) - - The SCC baseball playoffs will expand to eight (4 division winners plus four wild cards) teams in 2009. For the last three seasons, the SCC baseball playoffs included six teams.... Notre Dame is the defending SCC champion... In addition, 2009 SCC baseball semifinals and championship game will be played at historic Yale Field... It will mark the 15th consecutive year the SCC playoffs will be played at the historic field on Derby Avenue in West Haven.

Jonathan Law Captures Class L State Championship

Jonathan Law (14-11) defeated Fairfield Ludlowe, 7-1, to win the Class L title on Saturday, June 7 at Palmer Field.

SCC Baseball Playoffs Returns to Yale Field

(3-20) -- The 2008 SCC baseball championship game will be played at historic Yale Field... It will mark the 14th consecutive year the SCC title game will be played at the historic field on Derby Avenue in West Haven.

Amity (Class LL) and Guilford (Class L) Win State Titles

Spartans and Indians finish 1-2 in final state polls

Amity defeated Newington, 2-1, in Class LL championship game at Muzzy Field.

Guilford defeated Pomperaug, 1-0, behind a no-hitter from Will Jolin, in the Class L final at Muzzy Field.

Guilford Wins 1st SCC Baseball Title

(5-26-07) -- Behind the arm and bat of junior right-hander Will Jolin, the Guilford baseball team won its first-ever Southern Connecticut Conference championship with a 7-1 victory over top-seeded Amity (21-1) at Yale Field. Jolin tossed a complete-game and provided all of the offense that the Indians (18-4) would need with a first-inning grand slam, a performance that earned him Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.

Guilford exploded for five runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by Jolin’s blast into the right field picnic area. The Indians added single runs in the second and third innings to close their scoring on the afternoon. Amity scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Amity (21-1), making its fifth straight SCC championship game appearance, dropped its first game of the year.

Amity Finishes as Number-One Team in State

Spartans top both New Haven Register and Hartford Courant 2006 season-ending baseball polls... Branford finished in the top ten (3rd in Register, 7th in Courant).

Amity (Class LL) and Branford (Class L) Wins State Championships

Branford (18-8) defeated Pomperaug (17-5), 3-0... It was Branford's second state title (1998).

Amity (25-2) captured its first-ever state title with a 3-2 win over Bristol Central (18-7).

SCC Baseball and Softball Tournament Fields Expand in 2006

Starting this spring, the SCC baseball and softball tournament fields will expand. The baseball tournament will be increased from four to six teams starting in 2006. The softball tournament will expand from four to eight teams.

“With such a large and competitive league for both baseball and softball, I applaud our coaches and athletic directors for instituting this change,” SCC Commissioner Al Carbone said. “Our student-athletes benefit from the expansion because more teams and players will get the chance to compete for a SCC title.”
