8/25/04 - The Southern Connecticut Conference Board of Governors has selected Oronoque as the name for its recently-added fourth division.
Oronoque, which joins the Hammonassett, Quinnipiac, and Housatonic divisons, follows suit with the names of Native American rivers in the Southern Connecticut region. The four-divisional format was approved by the Board of Governors earlier this year along with the addition of two Milford-based schools - Jonathan Law and Foran.
The four-divisional format will be used for the following team sports: boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls tennis, boys and girls indoor and outdoor track, golf, baseball, softball, and girls volleyball.
HAMMONASSETT - Foran, Guilford, Daniel Hand, Hillhouse, and Jonathan Law
HOUSATONIC - Amity, Cheshire, Lyman Hall, Shelton, and Sheehan
QUINNIPIAC - Hamden, Xavier, Mercy, Notre Dame, Sacred Heart Academy, Fairfield Prep, and West Haven
ORONOQUE - Branford, Career, East Haven, Derby, North Haven and Wilbur Cross.
